The journey begins
The Festspielhaus St Pölten is a space of unlimited fantasy, of
known and unknown soundscapes, of old and new worlds just waiting to be
discovered. Just as it makes visions visible, it is happening in the
here and now, real and tangible. It’s scandalizing and contradictory,
tender and sensitive, pushy and trenchant. That’s how we are too, we
are all that – so heterogeneous, so contradictory, so united, so in
love.
In my opinion, the process of developing awareness and facilitating
perception includes all these facets. That’s why I attach great
importance to familiarizing you with this process in the course of the
season. As a programmatic priority in this season and the following
ones you will discover different artists in different contexts:
internationally renowned groups of artists from the fields of music and
dance as well as unknown ones from the regional Lower Austrian context
who are still waiting to be discovered.
We will present you several new segments in the course of the season:
Expeditions, performance venues and festivals. In the first two
fields you will get tools of perception enabling a process of discovery
and research. These tools are resources to approach complex artistic
processes. Don’t worry, you are already familiar with these tools, you
just do not use them so much any more, so they have to be rediscovered.
We understand ourselves as activator, seducer and mediator in these
fields, because we believe in the importance of sharing experiences.
For me, the concerns of St Pölten, the surrounding region and the needs
of Lower Austria are also very important. In course of the season, you
will see these priorities reflected in the intensified youth work, in
participation projects of some artists and in the new formats and
venues such as Box, Parkour and Café Publik.
After an intensive preparation time, I am pleased that the journey
is now beginning. Just as I and the whole Festspielhaus team had to get
acquainted at the start of planning one year ago, we are now looking
forward to getting to know you, our audience. It will be a mutually
intriguing journey of discovery off to new horizons.
I would say: Come on, let’s slip on to the dance floor of the
Festspielhaus cruise, which will take us on a very special journey.
