For the very first time, the Pet Shop Boys – Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant – have composed music for dance theatre! "It’s like a Tchaikovsky ballet", Tennant commented on his ambitions – but of course with pop appeal. Sadler’s Wells Theatre has brought together the titans of electronic pop and the unexcelled imaginary talent of the expressive choreographer Javier de Frutos, who is always on the lookout for new challenges. The Pet Shop Boys chose Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale "The Most Incredible Thing" as point of departure for a musical adventure which is tailor-made for ballet star Ivan Putrov. A wondrous story about magic, love, violence and the indestructibility of the spirit of true art and justice is conjured on stage as a modern fairytale by an impressive team of high-class artists – the choreographer, the dancers and the composers are supported by costume designs of Tony award winner Katrina Lindsay and by images of the film-maker and Bafta winner Tal Rosner. The Pet Shop Boys recorded the music of the three-act play with the Wroclaw Score Orchestra under the baton of Dominic Wheeler together with their long-time producer Sven Helbig.
