After the huge success of his Olivier Award-nominated AfterLight, which took as its inspiration the works of Vaslav Nijinsky, Russell Maliphant creates a new dance piece inspired by the works of the great French sculptor, Auguste Rodin.

This new co-production between Sadler’s Wells, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and The Joyce Theater sees Maliphant collaborating with some of the UK’s leading performers from the body-popping, locking, hip hop and contemporary dance worlds. Russell has always chosen to explore a diverse range of movement techniques and with The Rodin Project, he pushes that boundary once again.

Maliphant’s multi-award-winning team on Rodin includes lighting designer and regular collaborator Michael Hulls (PUSH, AfterLight); contemporary Russian composer Alexander Zekke; set designers Es Devlin, (who worked on previous Maliphant Company pieces AfterLight and Small Boats) and Bronia Housman and costume designer Stevie Stewart.

The performance is followed by a production at the Box - The Company of Elders - a very special “long night of dance"!

The Company of Elders will also perform choreografies by Phil Hulford and Hannah Shepherd under the artistic direction of Hofesh Shechter, Darren Ellis, Simona Scotto, Jasmine Wilson for Wayne McGregor|Random Dance and Steve Kirkham (New Adventures) on Fri 17 February, 11 h at the Box!
