The South Africa-born pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout has been enjoying international success in recent years. Celebrated by the press as an "artist with rare rhetorical and poetic talents", he especially caused a sensation with his Mozart interpretations at the pianoforte. "He plays Mozart with such purity . . . with so many nuances, such elegance, so full of surprises and expressivity" and "hits right to the heart", wrote the Dutch "Handelsblad". His "free ornamentation" is simply "superb", the "New York Times" review reported. In St Pölten, Kristian Bezuidenhout will give a guest performance with an exquisite Mozart programme. The individual variety of Mozart’s piano works, between the classical sonata schooled on Haydn, Baroque-inspired pieces and a variation technique pointing into the future, here comes into its own. This music is never just a finger exercise, but imbued with poetic and emotional meaning.
