"There is nothing more seductive than artfulness," the great novelist and scientist Umberto Eco wrote about his fellow countrymen Trovesi and Coscia, "when it has the humility to disguise itself as artlessness." Their music, drawn from almost forgotten traditions of Italian folk music, as Eco points out can "be appreciated at a high level", if one wishes to grasp all the erudite references – but it can also be to listened to "just as beautiful music . . . This would be a way to make art music popular and popular music artful." "In cerca di cibo", "in search of nourishment" means the quest for the roots – an indulgent and entertaining, jazzy and virtuous, emotional and witty musical journey through Italy, on which several familiar faces such as Pinocchio, Pablo Neruda’s postman and even Django appear. Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia, both natives of Lombardy, have for centuries been among the most renowned instrumentalists of their home country. They are full-blooded musicians who know no boundaries. Their repertoire ranges from Ancient Music, through jazz and folk music at its best, to Luciano Berio. Their music making is driven by rousing rhythms and exquisite poetry. Friends from childhood, they neither shy from simplicity nor from expressivity. In their duets they reach a perfect harmony.
