Austrian Folk Culture

Love lyrics have been handed down for thousands of years and their language is universal. Historically, the scope of folk love song ranges from the Baroque Gesellschaftslied (polyphonic song cultivated among the middle classes) through Alpine Gstanzln (Viennese dialect for stanza) to new creations. This concert is devoted to the different forms of love song: The a cappella Choir Villach, the Scheibbser3er from Lower Austria, the Kitzbüheler Sänger, Agnes Palmisano from Vienna and the Geigenmusi Kiesenhofer from Upper Austria enchant with songs articulating desire and happiness, hope and despair, joy and grief – all the facets of love as it were.
