"Actually, there is a contemporary dancer in each of us", the young choreographer and dancer Doris Ulrich is convinced. She is continuously looking for a new concept of dance and movement in her work. Born in Upper Austria, she studied pedagogics for modern dance at the Vienna Conservatory, before she was engaged as a performer at Vienna’s theatercombinat. She has been choreographing her own projects since 2006. Challenging what dance could be beyond everything she had been taught, took her down unusual paths from the beginning. Instead of working with professional dancers, she first developed two productions with elderly people without any professional training, in order to research physicality and physical boundaries together with them. At the Festspielhaus St. Pölten she will present two productions taking this approach forward. In "SPITZE" ballet codes that have been fixed for centuries will be dissected. Being an autodidact en pointe herself, together with a retired ballerina and a professional dancer, Doris Ulrich explores the different perspectives of classical dance. And "mehr als genug" is all about the body as a trademark and the definition of beauty. In the framework of Klub/60, Doris Uhlich will also give workshops for elderly people. She calls them "retirement dance", because she gets retirement going, and invites seniors without previous experience to find a new dance idiom. With further workshops, open rehearsals at the Festspielhaus and a new production at the 2012 Österreich TANZT festival, Doris Uhlich will provide the St. Pölten public with a vast insight into her work.
