Simultaneously with the new artistic director of the Festspielhaus St Pölten, Joachim Schloemer, Andrés Orozco-Estrada introduces himself as the new chief conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra. Orozco-Estrada, born in Columbia and trained as a conductor in Vienna, is well-known to the audience from previous concerts he conducted with the Tonkünstler Orchestra. In his first season as a chief conductor he is making symphonic works the key focus: thus he will perform the first symphonies by Mahler, Bruckner, Brahms, Schubert and Schumann. Masterpieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, Haydn and Shostakovich will complete the symphonic series. With Christiane Oelze and Angela Denoke, two internationally renowned vocalists will visit the Festspielhaus, Burgtheater actor Martin Schwab can be heard as the narrator in Schumann’s dramatic poem “Manfred”. Already in its 13th concert season at Festspielhaus St Pölten, the residence orchestra will play well-known music and meet new challenges. Thus the premiere of a commissioned work by the Austrian composer Christian Muthspiel is on programme for the new season’s opening.
