Tonkünstler Special

Apart from classical subscription programmes, the Festspielhaus and the Tonkünstler as residence orchestra will also be presenting a series of concerts dedicated to special occasions and offering that something extra. On the programme: well-known, unheard-of and improvised music. In an evening entitled “Transamericana”, the Tonkünstler highlight American composers from North and South. The focus is on the dividing and unifying forces of the vast continent’s two halves. In the traditional Christmas concert Julian Rachlin gives a guest performance as conductor and soloist with a choice of classical and contemporary masterpieces. Cinematic highlights combined with orchestral music are already an inherent part of the “Tonkünstler Special” series. “Sunrise Reloaded” is based on the previously successful production at the Festspielhaus. The point of departure is Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s legendary 1927 film “Sunrise – A Song of Two Humans”, which the video art of Victor Morales builds on. And the fact that baroque is anything but over is proved by “Barock 21”, an evening around the timeless art of ornaments and improvisations. Different worlds, but one approach to life in Orient and Occident, from Arabian drum music to Italian Baroque music and jazz.
