Operetta  When young Sandor Bárinkay returns to his native Hungary, the gypsy Czipra recognizes him as the son of the former lord and greets him cheerfully as the “Gypsy Baron”. But the protagonist of this operetta – Johann Strauss’ most popular after ‘Die Fledermaus’ – needs to go off to war before he can overcome disputes over inheritances and marriage plans and love can finally prevail. This perennial favourite can be seen at the Festspielhaus in a visiting production by Bühne Baden directed by Volker Wahl and Michaela Ronzoni.
