Dance A cosmopolitan, bridge-building chameleon: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has an almost unrivalled ability among contemporary choreographers to bring together a pulsating cosmos of cultures and art forms. Born in multilingual Belgium as the son a Flemish mother and a Moroccan father, he has been driven to explore the question of his own roots from the very beginning. In Vlaemsch (chez moi), together with visual artist Hans Op de Beeck, fashion designer Jan-Jan Van Essche and lutenist Floris de Rycker, he investigates their common background. Each using their own artistic signature, these four contemporary “Flemish masters” probe the deeper levels of their flat country and travel back in time from the present into the past.
