PROGRAM
* Richard Strauss: Don Quixote Fantastic Variations on a Theme of Knightly Character Op. 35
* Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 in E flat major Romantic
Music/Classic In this concert programme the genial knight Don Quixote saddles a cello to ride off on a great adventure – tilting at more than just windmills. With his sinfonia concertante Don Quixote, Richard Strauss retold Miguel de Cervantes’ novel in sound. The Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández performs the solo part. The horns are at the heart of Anton Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, providing the “romantic” mood for what is probably the composer’s best-loved work. American conductor Robert Trevino leads the Tonkunstler Orchestra in this symphony for his return to the orchestra.
