Dance Young choreographer Dada Masilo is the undisputed rising star of the South African dance scene. Brave and totally without reservations in her approach to classical material, she is also happy to update these ancient stories. Her African version of ‘Swan Lake’ features white tutus, a romantic love story and graceful swans. But Prince Siegfried’s hankering after the boys in his troupe is new. Dance Factory Johannesburg’s humorous performance addresses homophobia and gender stereotypes as well as stigma and exclusion. Here classical ballet blends naturally with contemporary dance and South African pantsula and gumboot dances. An explosive, imaginative and sensual interpretation of a European classic!
