Dance The fact that Jan Martens works with his finger on the pulse of our time while also eschewing fashion of all kinds is well known thanks to his sensational creations. Believing that everyone’s body has a story to tell, the Belgian choreographer is able to establish great veracity on stage. In his latest piece, he confronts children and dancers from Opera Ballet Vlaanderen with the harpsichordist Goska Isphording. This baroque instrument has been considered outdated, but a contemporary repertoire opens up unsuspected possibilities for reflection on the theme of renewal. FUTUR PROCHE outlines approaches to a near future that could change our society – models that allow scope for judicious action, doubt and introspection instead of passive observation or unthinking talk of progress.
