Spiritual and cosmic jazz, virtuoso footwork from the townships and Afro-futurism as a gesture of liberation: Jeremy Nedd and the group Impilo Mapantsula explore the complex experiences of the African diaspora. Here the choreographer, who was born in Brooklyn and now lives in Switzerland, forges a link between jazz as the expression of the African American civil rights movement and the South African subculture pantsula, which grew out of resistance to the policy of apartheid. A far-sighted dance evening that has been developed out of a tension between moving towards progress and looking back at the past.
