Béla Fleck , Edmar Castañeda & Antonio Sánchez Trio
Description
Three continents, three personalities, one common rhythm: as the BEATrio, true masters of their craft bring harp, banjo and drums together. The sonic venture becomes a musical revelation.
Music/Jazz The BEATrio is the latest formation of 18-time Grammy award winner Béla Fleck. As a style-defining border crosser between bluegrass, jazz and folk, the banjo virtuoso has been exploring new musical spaces for decades. Together with harpist Edmar Castañeda and drummer Antonio Sánchez, he is now once again igniting an innovative fire of sound: in 2024, they performed as a trio for the first time at New York's Blue Note Jazz Club. Their debut album BEATrio was created from improvisations. Castañeda's delicate harp lines, Sánchez's precise drumming and Fleck's virtuoso banjo playing intertwine seamlessly. Tracks such as Countryside or Cloak and Dagger show the trio striking a balance between structure and freedom. A sonic delight – rich in contrast, unexpectedly harmonious and captivating.
Born in New York, Béla Fleck revolutionized the sound language of the banjo with his band The Flecktones. Harpist Edmar Castañeda from Bogotá is regarded as the defining voice of his instrument, with performances at Carnegie Hall and collaborations with leading jazz and Latin greats. Mexican drummer Antonio Sánchez became internationally renowned through his collaboration with Pat Metheny and the film music for Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman.
