Marie Spaemann
CirclesDescription
Is she a singing cellist or a singer who plays the cello? For Marie Spaemann, this question never arises. The Vienna-born artist uses her voice, her cello and a loop station to create music that comes from the heart, based on a solid classical training which she uses to explore a range of genres. Spaemann has the ability to combine classical, soul, pop and jazz influences with her own songs to create an entirely coherent whole. Or, to quote the Frankfurter Allgemeine: “No one has ever used the cello for pop music as radically as the Viennese artist Marie Spaemann.“ After her languorous first record The Moony Sessions, the solo album Gap and extended concert tours, for example with Hans Zimmer, in her current project Circles, Spaemann tells of how cycles are completed or we succeed in breaking out of them. Inspired by the strength of her great-grandmother, the fragility of her inner child and the depth of her West African roots, she finds strength and hope to engage with a world that is becoming ever more complex.
