Legendary sounds from Senegal! As one of the most successful bands in Africa, Orchestra Baobab stands for the fusion of musical tradition and cosmopolitanism. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, it tells a moving story – in the truest sense of the word.

Afro-pop Named after its first venue, the Club Baobab in Dakar, the group developed a unique sound in the early 1970s: Afro-Cuban rhythms, soul, jazz and West African music merged into a fascinating mix that is still unrivalled today. Pulsating conga beats and fiery percussion meet virtuoso saxophone solos and almost magical electric guitar sounds. The band recently made an impressive comeback with the song 50 ANS, making it clear that Orchestra Baobab is a cross-generational force of nature that must be experienced live.

Founded in 1970, the band quickly reached a large audience in Senegal. It set musical standards with numerous albums. After disbanding in 1987, the group reformed in 2001 and released the acclaimed album Specialist in All Styles. Despite several line-up changes, the creative fire in their music is still as strong as ever.
