Pat Metheny
Dream Box/MoonDial TourDescription
Hardly anyone has influenced guitar-based jazz as much as Pat Metheny. His debut album Bright Size Life in 1972 revolutionised the traditional sound of jazz guitar. Numerous works ranging between progressive avantgarde, Latin, classic jazz and fusion have brought him legendary status and 20 Grammys. Now, on the album Dream Box, Metheny explores his dreamier side: in the opener The Waves Are Not The Ocean he lets the notes take their own course once they free themselves from the strings accompanying the chords. Clear as glass, then distorted, straight up and then with a shivering tremolo. Meanwhile, in Ole & Gard dissonance merges with melancholy beauty. For the first time in a long while Metheny makes his minor-timbred melodic sketches dance off the fingerboard. The Festspielhaus is his only touring date in Austria: a true dream for jazz lovers.
