prima la musica 2026 will once again bring young musicians to the stage this year from Tuesday, 24 February to Tuesday, 3 March 2026! In addition to the Festspielhaus St. Pölten, which will host performances from Wednesday, 25 February to Sunday, 1 March 2026, Lower Austria's largest youth music competition for classical music will also take place at other venues in the city.

Children and young people will present their musical skills to a jury of experts – either solo or in an ensemble. In numerous categories, from string and keyboard instruments to wind and percussion instruments to singing and chamber music, talented young musicians can compete, receive valuable feedback from professionals on the jury and gain experience on stage. Every year, around 900 young musicians from music and art schools in Lower Austria register for the state competition. The best musicians qualify for the 2026 national competition, which will take place from 22 May to 6 June 2026 in Eisenstadt in Burgenland.

Interested members of the public are very welcome to attend! All competitions, auditions and closing events are open to the public and offer a wonderful opportunity to experience young talent live. Admission is free, and all music fans are welcome to enjoy exciting musical performances and support the talents of tomorrow.
